One thing every woman share in common when it comes to hair is, making a decision on what to do with her hair. Whites are different from blacks not just in color, accent but also in hair texture. If I get the opportunity to choose what race I want to be, I will still choose black. Black is beautiful and we are blessed with all sort of natural gifts and resources.
Even our complexion is beautiful but because we have not gotten the slavery mindset out of us and the media are not helping out, we belief the whites are superior and better than us. For this reason, a lot of ladies have taken to bleaching.
The common change in most African women is their hair texture. First we must understand that even in Africa, people have different hair texture. Some are thick and curly with that kinky look while some are soft and curly to the root and still have the kinky look. There is a perception that natural hair is unkempt. Natural hair is seen as untidy and hard to maintain.
This is true when they don’t have the right ingredient to maintain their hair. It is for this reason the hot comb and chemical strengthener, cream relaxer was invented, to straighten the hair. This is not our natural hair. Well with the invention of products to maintain the natural hair, the level of purchase of relaxers has reduced. This goes to show how much
Africans are embracing who we are.
There are natural products that can be used as treatment for natural hair. The natural treatments are the blend of banana, avocado, raw honey, olive oil and coconut oil and put your hair in a twist to any style you want and this will give you a perfectly tidy and beautiful look. A way to keep your hair moisture is to wear braids or dreads. It is very fashionable, speaks more on the confidence we have in our natural looks and who we are. This is trendy for an African woman. Let us give the whites reasons to want to be like us. Beyond these, it keeps our hair stronger and makes it grow faster without damages. With this, one doesn’t have to think of hair breakage or dandruff because of natural products being used.
