Trees are very important in the human environment. They beautify the environment and also provide important materials and sources of food to man. A tree is a woody perennial plant, typically having a single stem or trunk growing to a considerable height and bearing lateral branches at some distance from the ground. Trees are of different types providing certain food and materials to human. One of such amazing tree is the ‘palm tree’; they are very useful to man that even the leaves are very useful. Therefore, every part of palm tree is very important to man. Palm tree are distinguished by their large, compound, evergreen leaves, known as fronds, arranged at the top of an unbranched stem. Palm tree are from the family of Arecaceae, a botanical family of perennial climbers, shrubs, acaules and trees.

Can you imagine going to the beach without palm tree? Or have you sit and ask yourself where wax is gotten from? Palm trees provide shade on a hot beach and also beautify the environment. Palm trees can be used in different shapes and forms. The palm tree fruit can be used for oil, coconut, wax, biodiesel, jelly and wine. While the leaves of palm trees are useful in making roofs, which can last for years, the leaves can be used in weaving everything from furniture, to decorations and place mats, basketry, clothing and also in religious ceremonies.The wax of a palm tree is used for making scented candles.it is soft in texture and holds fragrance easily. Also sealing wax from palm can be used for sealing important documents.

Also, palm trees have economic importance, including coconut products, oils, dates, palm syrup, ivory nuts, palm wood and raffia.  The rattans of palm whose stems are used extensively in furniture and baskets. Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil produced by the oil palms is very common in the eastern and southern part of the country. While also palm sap is fermented to produce palm wine. Coconut which is gotten from palm tree can be used to produce different things like coconut juice, coconut rice, and also coir is a coarse, water resistant fiber extracted from the outer shell of coconuts is used in doormats, brushes, mattresses and ropes. Also palm trees are used as ornament, they are grown along streets in tropical and subtropical cities. Palm trees can be grown in the garden or around the compound of the house to beautify the surrounding.
