ABU IETA HOLDS FIRST ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION AND PAPER PRESENTATION

The Islamic Economic Thought Association (IETA) of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria holds it first roundtable and paper presentation in the ongoing EITA annual week.
The program chaired by the HOD of the economic department ably represented by Prof Jeo Jaja talked on the topic Nigeria's Economic recession; the socio economic perspective which was addressed by various discussants. Among which was Dr Yakubu from the department of Mass communication, who talked on the role of the media in promoting the economy. According to him, the media in handling economic challenges engage in investigative and interpretative reporting, surveillance and many more to help the economy flow. " In surveillance, we mornitor the budget documentation and hold the leaders accountable" he said.

In the same vein, Dr David Moveh from the department of political science talked on the political perspective. According to him,  political events contributed mostly to the problem of recession. " The APC were not quite prepared during the 2015 election" he said.

He further said as the result of the present challenges, we need to have alternative models for development and that is why the idea of Islamic banking is of important to Nigeria.


Paper presentation was also delivered by Professor Chika from the University of sokoto. He stressed more on the principle of Islamic economy, where he limit them to Nigerian context.
However, in the presentation, he outlined some of the ways we can addressed the problem of Nigerian economy. Some of which are; hi Nigeria should adopt Islamic financial system and also adapt interest free system, also be just and responsible government " not only good government from the leaders, even the companies" he said.
He concluded the presentation by saying Nigeria is surfering from what he called "Resource scarsed".

Other people who attended the program include Dr Yusuf Isa Mai kudi of Economic department, Mal. Hamisu Ya'u, Dr Auwal Umar and others. The program ended with a question and answer session where students asked questions and the discussants did justice in answering it.
