Hustle to own and deceive, especially financially. Right from the inception of school many young ones both male and female have become hustlers. If you want to be educated, you have to pay the price says Ade, a street hustler in the university of Lagos. The feature explores the lives of students in our tertiary institutions who never get as named of their hustling lives.
With the hustle and bustle of stress that comes with each day, students still find time to make money for themselves as it is their source of livelihood. Some students come from poor background; some have parents who do not care about their education, while others are orphans who do not pay much attention.
The university today is composed of lots of students who do anything possible to make ends meet, either by hook or crook, some distinguish themselves as 419, making fake phone calls and claiming to be international personnel’s, or stealing from peter and selling the stolen item to Paul. Young men these days in the university make more money than some lecturers because of this so called business they have ventured into.
Some attempts have been made in the university to curb this problem of making money in a deceitful way. For example, entrepreneurship and innovation is a course that has been introduced to all university students in their 200-300 level, yet, the rate of cunning activities has still increased.
These same men are still seen in clubs and parties, drinking, partying, and lavishing money on women, thereby encouraging prostitution which is another social voce in the university. They encourage young girls to visit them in their expensive houses, showing off their fleet of cars and claiming to be business men.
The shocking part of this is that most of these youngsters have parents who do not care about where their children get money from. Instead, they pressurizes them saying their mates have built mansions for their parents.
In conclusion, much has to be done quickly to curb this menace as it has become a huge problem in the society. The government should organize empowerment programs for youths and create more job opportunities. The government should give out grants and loans for youths to start up their businesses. There is so much potential out there and the government needs to tap from it so we can move own as a great nation.
