Regarding today's realities with respect to democratic governance in Africa, firstly, let me say that despite its perceived imperfections, democracy remains the most widely accepted form of governance in the world today. This system of governance has endured despite recent threat emanating from the upsurge of terrorists attacks and aggressive tactics by authoritarian regimes which are said to have contributed to the decline in global freedom in 2014. For example, the freedom house’s annual report in political rights and civil liberties of 2015 documents some of today's world. On our continent, the Mo Ibrahim index of Africa governance has dressed that Africa continues to make progress in b area of human development and participation human rights, whilst the other two categories, safety and rule of law and sustainable economic opportunity, decline thereby causing the average overall governance progress to be stalled since 2011.
